Let Summer Begin!

Nothing says “summer” like Memorial Day! Break out the whites, throw open the windows, warm up the grill. With the official start of summer, the Hamptons buzz with regulars and tourists alike. Kicking off the weekend are the Southampton Artists Association Memorial Day Art Show (opening reception from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 28), the Southampton Antique Fair, and arts and cultural events aplenty in the East End beginning this week, including classes and activities for children through adults.

There are numerous additional art shows and gallery openings, wine tastings, book signings (Meghan Boody’s We Are Gods in the Chrysalis, June 4, East Hampton), concerts of jazz, violin, and piano (Jazz en Plein Air is at the Parish Art Museum on Friday, May 28); theater performances and premieres, and dance performances (Trisha Brown Dance Company is at Watermill Center on May 28).

Brush up on your contemporary art knowledge with artist-author Anika Conner’s presentation on May 31 at the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton. Her book, Point Suite Contemporary Art, highlights thirty-four emerging artists.

Can’t decide? Try an evening of stories, songs, and comedy with Mario Cantone & Jerry Dixon, May 28 at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, or something unique at the 2nd Annual Food Lab Conference at Stony Brook, Southampton, with keynote speaker Chef Carla Hall from NBC’s The Chef, on June 4.

Looking for some tennis action? East Hampton’s Hampton Racquet, together with the Ellen Hermanson Foundation, is hosting a round robin event on Saturday, May 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Proceeds will support East End breast cancer patients. (https://hamptonracquet.com/events)
